The Weleda brand was founded in 1921 by Rudolf Steiner, Dr. Founded by Ita Wegmann and Oskar Schmiedel, it is a leading manufacturer of natural, holistic and organic medicines and cosmetics. In 1921, Schmiedal's experimental laboratory at the Goetheanum was merged with a chemical company and moved to new premises in Arlesheim. This was the beginning of the so-called Weleda company - but the name was only decided between 1924 and 1933. The name Weleda was created by Rudolf Steiner and was based on the Germanic healer Veleda. Their logo, which includes a staff and an Aesculapian snake, acts as a visual metaphor for the connection between holistic and anthroposophical medicine.
