The number of different toothpastes is overwhelming. How do you choose the right one for you? Brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste remains the best thing you can do to maintain your dental health, experts say. Fluoride penetrates the surface of tooth enamel and reaches areas that brushing cannot reach - assuming you brush for about two minutes. Fluoride makes the tooth surface harder (remineralizing) and more resistant to attack by sugar-loving bacteria.
The gold standard of research reports, Cochrane, found that using fluoride in toothpaste leads to less tooth decay. The stronger the concentration, the more rot is prevented. Check the fluoride concentration. Think about your needs. Many people - especially those who clean well - do not need any additional active ingredients other than fluoride. The use of toothpaste is an important element of our oral health routine because, when used correctly with brushing, it is responsible for removing plaque and preventing bacterial buildup on the teeth and helps fight periodontitis/gum disease.
Contrary to popular belief, not all toothpaste is created equal. They come in a variety, each with their own special uses and ingredients.
