Teeth whitening is a process in which teeth are whitened to make them brighter. It can lighten the existing colour by several shades.
Tooth discolouration has a sad tendency to appear gradually. Years of consuming coffee, juice, tea, wine and even some vegetables - not to mention tobacco use, medication and ageing - can take their toll, leaving stubborn yellow or brown stains that resist even the most vigorous brushing.
Teeth whitening works by whitening the teeth from the inside out. Teeth whitening usually contains either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, but some methods also use other agents, such as sodium perborate. Stains on your teeth can occur when your enamel discolours if you eat too much food or drink with a high pigment content, such as red wine and coffee, or if you smoke tobacco. Teeth whitening helps to remove stains.
