With curly hair, there are areas you need to pay special attention to when caring for it. Curly hair often suffers from a lack of moisture, so it’s important to “deep condition” once a week. Sometimes your hair can also lack protein, especially for people with bleached hair. If you notice that your hair is lacking protein, a protein treatment is recommended. A good idea if your hair has too much moisture is to counteract it with a protein treatment. The same goes the other way around, if you have too much protein in your hair, give it a moisture mask. This way you can bring your hair back into balance.
A quick tip is to deep cleanse your hair once a month to get rid of any lingering hair products, which can otherwise weigh down the hair and affect definition and curl.
Protein treatment
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup rice
Cook the rice in a pot of water. Let the rice cook until it is very tender. Let the water cool down with the rice. When the water is at room temperature, drain the rice. Apply the treatment to wet hair and leave for 15-20 minutes, then rinse.
Moisturizing mask
- 1 ripe avocado
- 3-4 teaspoons honey
- 8-10 drops jojoba oil
Mix all three ingredients together. Apply the treatment to wet hair and leave it on for 20 minutes. Then wash your hair.
