For parents-to-be, it can be a jungle trying to figure out what to buy when they’re expecting a new little person. We’ve put together a clear list of our favorites when it comes to care and accessories that baby and parents need in the early days as a new family.

Safe sleep for children and parents

In the early days, sleep is typically scarce for parents and sometimes for the baby too. That’s why it’s so important to get a deep, safe and restful sleep.

Baby alarm

A good and simple baby monitor is worth its weight in gold! That’s why it’s at the top of the list of things we recommend to new parents.

Not everyone is lucky enough to live in a way that allows them to hear their baby sleeping – both outside and inside. And if you have the little one in another room, it’s great to be able to monitor their sleep with a baby alarm. These two from Philips are beautiful and have lots of smart features. The one on the left even won the German Stiftung Warentest.

Massage oil and room spray

Many parents like to give their baby a little massage as part of their pampering routine and then a nourishing massage oil comes in handy. The one on the right from Milk & Co Baby also contains some calming lavender. You can also get the calming effect of lavender as a room spray.

Diaper changing and care

Anyone with young children knows that the whole baby body care thing is a bit of a silly paradox. On the one hand, babies are naturally soft and lovely. They don’t sweat, they’re not big enough to get real dirt under their nails and everywhere, and it’s really best if you don’t mess with their natural environment too much. On the other hand, there’s diaper rash, scars, baby acne, and so on and so forth.

The compromise most people have to make is to use the gentlest possible care that helps strengthen and restore the natural balance of baby skin.

For small, delicate bottoms

Sometimes it’s unavoidable that a baby’s bottom gets tired of being wrapped up in a diaper and washed over and over again. And then it gets red and sore.

For the whole body

A mild cream or lotion for the body and face is also nice to have on hand. Use it for dry spots, for a nice massage, for mom or dad, etc. And don’t forget the sunscreen when you’re outside.

Happy in the bath

Bathing is one of the most enjoyable activities you can do with your baby when everyone is just getting used to it and feels safe. You have good eye contact with your baby and can give a little massage. The baby can play and use his body in a different way than on the floor or in your arms.

Shampoo and shower gel

Baby oil

Oil is wonderful both during and after bathing because it moisturizes and protects in a completely different way than water-based creams. A few drops of oil in the bath will prevent the baby’s skin from drying out when using soap. It can also be used to treat scars on the scalp.

For mom

Let’s not forget that the mother needs a little TLC and pampering too, both before and after the baby is born. Hormonal changes and irregular sleep can mean you have to change your usual beauty routine to feel good.

When you don’t have the time or energy to shower, there’s nothing better than an effective treatment that delivers fast, reliable results without much effort. Here are a range of must-have products that you can use with four hours of uninterrupted sleep and one hand behind your back – should the need arise.
