Back in the 1860s, the young Mason Pearson left Yorkshire and went to London to seek his fortune, where he started working on "British steam brushworks" in London's East End.
He later became a partner in the company and was the one who in 1885 invented a special automatic machine which made it easier to manufacture the brushes and because of this won a silver medal at the international inventor exhibition in London the same year.
In the first many years, they produced several types of brushes such as; cloth brushes, brushes for horses etc. But Mason Pearson continued to develop and improve his famous hairbrushes and when World War I started and sent all horses and soldiers to the front, the demand for cloth and horse brushes dropped and they decided to put all sails in and concentrate exclusively on hairbrushes.
Mason Pearson's hairbrush as we see it today is very similar to the one he started with in 1885 and completely identical to the brush that was completed in the early 1920s.
Today, the company is still in the family and owned by the 4th Generation who proudly keep the craft alive and seek that loyal customers around the world have the daily pleasure of being able to brush their hair and massage the scalp with an original Mason Pearson that gets any to lay your head back and just enjoy the moment!
